The Best Three-Star Hotels In London – Comfort, Location & Budget

As we've mentioned, when we're in a city we like our accommodations to reflect the tone, the vibe, even the elegance, of the city — and that's true about London. But we also know that sometimes we are on a (and we even hate to write the word) budget! We know you may be, too, but we don't want you to sacrifice location or comfort.

So, we popped into a London phone booth (one of those red jobs) put on our superhero costumes, and used our enhanced powers to come up with a list of three-star hotels in London that we really like. Not just any hotels, mind you. They have to meet our criteria —

  • Location, location, location. you don't want to have to walk for miles to see the things you want to see.
  • In travelers' favourite parts of London. That is, three-star hotels with a location rating of 90% or more.
  • Traveler approval rating of just about 90%. We also looked for at least 1,000 reviews per hotel.
  • 3 Star designation.
  • Free WIFI.

So let us take off the capes, the tights, and the shirts with the funny logos, and share our list of the top three-star hotels in London —

Premier Inn St Pancras

Premier Inn St.Pancras

The Premier Inn chain offers good, clean, budget-conscious accommodations in several areas of London. The St Pancras offering is, as you might expect, very close to St Pancras train station, base of the Eurostar, as well as the adjacent Kings Cross Underground Station. So, you're in the northern part of central London, in Camden Town. A great thing about the location is that the Kings Cross station is an intersection of a number of Tube lines and it's easy to get everywhere really quickly. In fact, travelers rate the location at 94%.

Rooms have a crisp design with nice beds and bathrooms. There's a neutral color palette using white and natural woods, with attractive purple accents used throughout.

Luna Simone Hotel

Luna And Simone Hotel

Located south of Buckingham Palace toward the Thames, Luna Simone is very near to Victoria Station, a train terminus and intersection of two important Underground lines. Found in a neighbourhood of those cute white townhouses along Belgrave Road, you're right in Westminster and a nice stroll to the Parliament buildings (Big Ben, and all that!) and Westminster Abbey, about 20 minutes.

Simple, clean rooms — some of them have three or four beds. It's a family-run hotel that offers a free English breakfast featuring home cooking!

Highly recommend this hotel! We stayed in a family room on the ground floor. It was exceptionally quiet, quite spacious, and had a ceiling fan which made the room extra comfortable for us. Chatting with the friendly, personable owners at breakfast was a wonderful way to start the day. Very easy walk to the Pimlico tube stop and there are some wonderful restaurants nearby so the location was great. We would stay here again without hesitation"

Premier Inn Blackfriars – Fleet Street

Premier Inn Blackfriars – Fleet Street

This Premier Inn is found right in the centre of things — in the City of London — and conveniently located for St Paul's Cathedral, the Thames, the Tate Modern Museum, etc, etc. Blackfriars Passage Underground Station is only a 5-minute walk. The hotel in on a narrow, surprisingly quite street in the heart of London.

You'll find the chain's standard clean and crisp rooms in the standard Premier Inn design with the purple accents. (They call it violet.) A surprising number of guests comment positively on the comfort of the beds as well the service and food in the hotel restaurant.

Premier Inn London Blackfriars is a hidden gem. It is a very well situated hotel in London, and it is surprisingly peaceful. The rooms are comfortable and you sleep in a surprising silence, even though there are busy roads very near the hotel. You can easily walk to the Tate Modern, the Globe theatre, and Borough Market, and also have a look at the Temple and the City of London. Charing Cross is not far away either. The trip to the Hotel from Heathrow Airport is cheap and easy with the Tube."

Hampton London Waterloo

Hampton London Waterloo

This time we're on the south side of the river and right near Waterloo Station, just about 5 minutes away. The Tate Modern Museum, the London Eye, and the aquarium are all within walking distance, and the easily-accessed Tube takes you quickly to wherever else you want to go.

This Hampton hotel is what we think of as "contemporary budget". The rooms are simple, comfortable, and nicely appointed in a modern kind of way. The thing about the newer properties in chains like the Hampton is that you know what to expect in terms of offering and comfort.

A very welcoming place to make the stay easy. Transport available for all directions. The welcome to the Hotel was excellent, our room was all we could have wished for. The beds were very comfortable. We always look for a great shower, clean bathroom, and we got all we had wished for and more. Each morning our visit to the breakfast area was never disappointing. Comfortable seating, a wonderful choice of food and very attentive staff."

Premier Inn Holborn

Premier Inn Holborn

The fifth hotel in the Top Five is another Premier Inn, because of its location, offerings, and guest satisfaction. This one is near the centre of things and a 5-minute walk to the well-connected Holborn Underground Station. Easy walking access to the British Museum with the Thames and St Paul's both about 20 minutes on foot. All-in-all a very good location and, even though you are central, the hotel is located on a surprisingly small and quiet street.

Rooms, amenities and services are as described above at Premier Inns. Clean, comfortable, great beds.

Great place to stay. I appreciated the quiet room, the comfy bed, as advertised, and the very helpful, courteous, friendly staff. The surrounding cafes and eating establishments were excellent as was the Motel restaurant. Breakfast was also excellent."
