Rome is historical, luxurious, grand and if you're like us you want your stay in the Eternal City to be all that… and more. When we're visiting a special place like this, we want the whole experience to be special — what we see, the things we do, where we eat, and where we stay. Which is why we love luxury hotels like those we recommend here — where "special" is just the beginning.
When we recommend hotels, we don't just rely on our own opinions and experiences, we find out what other travelers have to say and how they rate their stay at the hotels. Here's what we insist on in the luxury hotels in Rome that we recommend to you —
Here then are the luxury hotels in Rome Italy that we prefer. The envelope, please —
Hotel Raphael certainly has location — next to Piazza Navona and across the river from Hadrian's Mausoleum (Castel Saint Angelo) — in fact guests give the location a 97% rating. It's easy to see what else is near the hotel, just head up to the rooftop terrace for sweeping views of Rome, from Saint Peter's Basilica to the Pantheon.
By the way,, the roof terrace is where you'll find one of the hotel's two excellent restaurants. Inside, the Raphael is full of luxurious details and comforting touches — wood, lush fabrics, cozy beds & bathrooms.
Fabulous gem of a hotel in a great location. Lovely room and bed very comfortable. Modern, clean and attention to detail good. Nice toiletries and bathrobes etc. We were upgraded to a room with small terrace, which was lovely. All staff helpful, friendly and nothing too much trouble. Hotel has a vegetarian restaurant and a nice roof terrace with great views."

• Largo Febo 2, 00186 Rome, Italy
A 6- to 10-minute walk takes you to the Pantheon in one direction and the Spanish Steps in another. Or cross the river and head to Castel Saint Angelo and The Vatican. (Travelers peg the location at 98%!) You may be in the centre of things, but the hotel itself is located on a very narrow, one-way, cobblestone street with a cute sidewalk cafe right across from it.
Inside J.K. Place Roma you'll find top-notch modern design and über comfort with marble bathrooms, handmade Italian linens, and rosewood canopies above the beds. This small hotel only has 30 rooms, guaranteeing you personal attention. "This place is outstanding," as the following guest review says.
Chic, superior service, amazing hotel!! JK Place Roma is one of the best hotel experiences we've ever had. It's stylish, hip, comfortable, modern with a classic touch. The rooms were amazing with great amenities. Loved the shower and marble bathroom. The staff treated us like royalty. Can't say enough. This place is outstanding."

• Via di Monte d'Oro 30, 00184 Rome, Italy
This famous hotel in Rome is located at the top of the equally-famous Spanish Steps. If that's not enough, one of the ritziest shopping streets in the world is right nearby — Via dei Condotti. Because it's up on the hill, the views from the rooms are amazing.
Inside the Hassler Roma it's all luxurious elegance with plush fabrics, great service, and design details to die for. While you're there be sure to dine in the Michelin-starred hotel restaurant, Imàgo. It's up on the 6th floor, offering even more great views of Rome.
Being at the top of the Spanish Steps is like being on the Stairway to the Stars. When we arrived at the Hassler at the end of our Italian vacation, it was like arriving in Heaven. The luxurious surroundings were topped off by the most sumptuous bedding. Everything we ate was presented in a novel way. The Hassler hasn't lost any of its panache since we last stayed there in 1984."

• Piazza Trinità Dei Monti 6, 00187 Rome, Italy
Classy & classical, that's how we think of the Palazzo Dama. The woodworking, finishes, high ceilings, and furnishings are in a category reserved for the world's best hotels. Holding court (or maybe just sitting!) in the lounge and other public spaces at the Palazzo Dama makes you feel like the lady or lord of the manor. It's that good!
The Dama is located halfway between the Vatican and the magnificent park, Villa Borghese. The hotel is set in a former palace (palazzo), with all the grandeur that implies. "Your rich Italian uncle has a yacht, this is his Roman residence." Did we mention the pool?
Palazzo Dama, Rome's best new hotel. Likes — everything about Palazzo Dama. Location, interior design, service are all simply excellent. My favourite is Room 201, with a huge balcony, or 209, both are excellent. This is a rare hotel. The best way to describe the Dama is a mix of 5-star understated luxury + modern design. Your rich Italian uncle has a yacht, this is his Roman residence. Thank you Dario & all the staff for a great stay. "
